Charles & Charles Red '07
This Columbia Valley (Mattawa, WA) red is comprised of equal parts Cabernet and Syrah. This deep purple wine comes across at first as a typical warm(er) climate red, however the initial nose of hot eucalyptus, damp woodsy earth, notes of cedar and spice are followed by the more subtle set of simple aromas comprised of rose and baked fig. From the start this wine has a surprisingly powerful yet clean feel - a gentle balance between the wood and bitter-tart fruit (mostly cherry) notes that accompany many warm reds from Washington. With a lingering finish of cherry, strawberry and hints of cola, this wine would pair very well with simple grilled fare - especially burgers and cuts of beef.
