Color: Deep, rich, opaque violet with reddish hues on the edges
Nose: Dry and earthy, with some slate and oak, accompanied with generous floral notes and hints of smoke, leather and black tea
Palate: This silky, floral red is a bit different from its ancestral Italian(Piedmont) source in a couple of ways. First of all, this wine is from Stolpman Vineyards in Los Olivos, California - producers known for making well-crafted Italian varietals. Secondly, there is less prominence of raspberry and mineral-slate, than is traditionally found in the Italian version. This wine has more of a floral bouquet with brighter, more prominent cherry notes. The initial dryness quickly gives way to a soft, smokey, strawberry sweet finish with notes of black tea. It is surprisingly elegant and refreshing - a great wine for special occasion beef/lamb recipes!
