Color: Opaque ruby/deep dark garnet
Nose: Earthy sage and barn-wood with deep cherry-fig notes and hints of leather, licorice and tobacco
Palate: Earlier in the year, I was in the Bay Area and ended up taking a private tour of the Louis M. Martini headquarters in St. Helena, in Napa County. After tasting a selection of their signature reds, I am content to say that of any winery in Napa, Martini is the ones that forces you take notice and say, "Now that's a Napa Cab!" This rich, elegantly silky wine has smokey cherry and intense but clean, jammy fruit to complement the lingering, velvety tannins on the finish. In between are layers of fig, vanilla, oak and sweet plum. This wine is one of the simple and wonderful pleasures of dining when added to a table of wild game, red meats or just a snack tray of nothing but cured meats and salty bread sticks!
