The color is pale blonde. The scent is summer stone fruit and mild slate with just a hint of oak. The taste is lively with bright acidity, pineapple, green apple, and a sweet-tart finish. Make sure you let this one warm up for 20 minutes out of the fridge, so it has time to open up. Otherwise you'll miss the fruit and subtlety.
About the wine: This is a Dry Riesling (their term) from Dr. Konstantin Frank (I'm going to guess this person is German), which to us means not so sweet but retaining the underpinnings of the Riesling grape. There are many expressions of this grape, but they are typecast as either dry or sweet. That being said, what I find interesting is the terroir of the Finger Lakes region and how it affects this particular bottling. The complexities are in the mineral notes rather than the fruit.
The Finger Lakes is one of four viticultural regions in the great state of New York. Being in Colorado, we admit to knowing next to nothing about this region - and that makes us thirsty!
